Pampered Chef? I must run... fast...
I’m thinking of becoming a Pampered Chef consultant. I think it would be really fun, and I love their stuff. Does anyone know anything about this? I’ve been reading their Web site, but it’s hard to tell how you really get started. What kind of commission can I make? I wouldn’t really do it for the money - I’m guessing it’s not that great - but it would be a fun way to meet people and get cool kitchen products.
I recently attended a Pampered Chef party which a neighbour held to raise funds for her church. I don’t care for organised religion and am not even of her faith but she asked me nicely so I went.
As once-in-a-lifetime (read: never-again) experiences go, this was one weird thing. There was one demonstrator and two volunteers who prepared (during which process the demonstrator got to show off all her cookware) and cooked a baked dish, of which all the 30 people attending got a slice. The whole evening from set-up to wrap-up was 4.5 hours. Yes, 4 hours and a half. It was past my bed time when I returned and it was still a weekday next day. All the 30 people were women who were clearly enjoying an evening away from their children and I was the only one yawning. Shame on me, perhaps… Or rather not.
I do not bake but I did buy a chopping board and a ladle (yet to be delivered and it is already 2 weeks later). Just so they could raise funds. The Pampered Chef consultant was giving 15% of her revenue from the evening to the church.
The products are pricey without the fun bit of walking around Williams Sonoma or Sur La Table or any such nice kitchen goods store. I do not like to have to wait for 2 weeks for a chopping board (I had broken my oak chopping board just that week by smartly sticking it in the dish-washer against better advice).
And if I know in advance, I will excuse myself from a Pampered Chef party next time around. Some things I do not really want to experience myself. Not again.
Sorry, Emily, this rant should not put you off becoming a Pampered Chef consultant. :-)
